Facilities
Cutting-Edge Pharmaceutical Research at Spacious Facilities
Pharmaceutical research is expanding alongside the growing needs of society. Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences has research labs on every floor from basement level 1 to the 6th floor. The spacious facilities and state-of-the-art equipment for RI research, animal testing and central labs are conducive to the latest trends in Pharmaceutical research.
RI Research Facilities

Facilities for Deeper Probing RI Research. High Potential for Medical Care Advancement.
Radioactive isotopes (RI) are absolutely essential to basic research into incurable diseases today as they work as tracers for plotting the distribution, migration and metabolic activity of biologically active substances and drugs in living things. Nevertheless, one mistake can mean lethal exposure, therefore careful safety management is a must. In the RI labs, students take research more deeply into radioactive compounds and many other fields that keep pace with the progress of modern medicine.
Animal Testing Facilities

Scientific Research Based on Animal Testing.
The animal test labs at Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences are designed to produce more accurate test results. Testing on mice, rats and other animals is absolutely essential to the study and research of medicines. The school has labs for animal feeding, raising animals and testing infected animals as well as clean rooms. All are designed with the latest features to control conditions and ensure absolute safety. And, all rooms have high performance filters in order to supply clean fresh air. Plus, static pressure is maintained to raise and test animals in a controlled clean environment. The facilities are designed so as to protect students, faculty and area residents against biohazards.
Research and Test Labs

A spacious learning environment enables lab work and research at the advanced level of pharmacy
On the 3rd and 4th floors of the classroom and lab building there are 8 general labs, including a dispensary and an information science lab to keep pace with the progress of pharmacy. All in all, it is a well-rounded spacious learning environment. In the research building animal test labs and RI labs are located underground, while general labs are found on the above ground floors and are laid out to enable specialized research.
Medicinal Herb Garden

Medicinal plants grown on campus promise students a more substantiated program of study.
Medicinal plants play an important role in studies into Pharmacognosy and other subjects. Over 800 species of plants from umbellifer, hepatica, labiate and other families are growing on approximately 5,000 m2 of land on the east side of the campus. There are many flowers that bloom from spring to summer, parallel to how classes in pharmaceutical botany are taught. There are also greenhouses for observing a variety of medicinal herbs in and out of the season. These gardens are managed carefully as a backup to a more substantial program of study. Moreover, the garden is open to the public once a month and many visitors hear explanations university professors give.
University Pharmacy

University pharmacy gives students both the joy and responsibility of contributing to local health care.
Pharmacy attached to Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences opened in November 1999 with the goal of being “useful to the local community”. It is helping to fill the growing demand for pharmacists and is providing services that are contributing to local healthcare.
The pharmacy is also used for practical training in order to give students a taste of the real world while still studying with us, which has proven tremendously useful to them. Through practical training at this University Pharmacy, the students get a taste of the joy of contributing to local medical care and the responsibility associated with being a pharmacist. This kind of practical training is provided to ready students for the real world of pharmacy.
