Students progress from “Basic Education” to “Fundamental Pharmacy”, “Applied Pharmacy” and “Medical Pharmacy”, gaining along the way a solid understanding of basics and graduating as pharmacists and pharmacy specialists that can make a worthy contribution to society.

To meet these social needs, Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences developed an original curriculum that covers it all from general education to practical training in the real world. We produce pharmaceutical professionals who excel in a wide range of fields.

The Department of Pharmacy is positioned to provide comprehensive exposure to the effects that drugs have on living things. The curriculum presents an organic and systematic view of the relations between drugs and living things. Students learn the specialist knowledge required of pharmacists from the basics, including the directions and effects of pharmaceutical products, managing information on pharmaceutical products and more. Fifth and sixth year students go through a practical training program that develops them into pharmacists ready to react and respond to today's sophisticated level of medicine. The Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences is a comprehensive program that delves into pharmaceutical properties, structures and reactions by grasping drugs as a tool for elucidating and controlling life phenomena and analyzing the effects that drugs have through their relations with living things. The curriculum presents an organic and systematic view of the relations between drugs and living things. It is coordinated with the Doctoral Studies of the Graduate School so that students finish as pharmaceutical specialists needed in a wide range of fields where a foundation of pharmacy of drug development is needed to help people lead healthy, rewarding and safe lifestyles.

Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences has two departments, Department of Pharmacy and Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and students can choose which direction they want to go in their fourth year. Department of Pharmacy (6-year program) prepares students for a ready-to-start position at the medical forefront or in community healthcare and welfare, while Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences (4-year program) graduates specialists in pharmacy needed for drug research and development in a wide diversity of pharmaceutical fields. Both programs categorically progress from the fundamentals to applications, and give students the effective knowledge and skills for pursuing a future and goals of their own choice and design.
